Gradual Podcast Recording
So, what’s the podcast about? Listen here
Gradual (pronounced Grad: UAL) is a podcast that explores the big questions and challenges that many new graduates will face. In each episode, we share unfiltered stories from professional creatives who make a living doing what they love.
Guests tell us about their journey, the ups and downs, advice and practical tips, and how they have come to make a living in the creative industry. With this next series we’re focusing on sharing stories of people who have graduated in the past 1-3 years.
Behind the scenes we’re particularly interested in telling the upfront and honest stories including the difficult bits, the jobs you hated and of course how you overcame that and what went well. We want to offer practical advice, share the stuff that often gets glossed over and help our students figure out how on earth to get a foot in the door.
Who’s making the podcast and why?
Creative Shift a team within UAL’s Careers and Employability - are dedicated to supporting students underrepresented in the creative industries. We run lots of different projects to support these students including this podcast. With the podcast we’re trying to share advice and hacks from those who have been there. Although our guests are varied we have a particular focus on working class creatives and creatives of colour as we feel these stories often aren’t heard (or perhaps we share the ‘shiny version’) and the advice they offer can be different and really valuable to the students we work with. Many students have mentioned that they don’t see ‘people like them’ working in the creative industries and we’re trying to shift that – if you can’t see it, how can you be it?
