How Are You, Babe?

  • Blank 100 100 De Beauvoir Road, Unit 5 N1 4EN, London United Kingdom (map)

How are you Babe? is exploring a contemporary collective feeling of hope from a female perspective.

The exhibition will showcase nine international artists, creating a dialog through performance, sculpture, virtual reality, painting and video installation. The artists will share an intimate view into their perception of the time we live in, questioning social conventions and aesthetic convictions. While it seems tempting to get lost within this generation and its complex issues, the exhibition aims to share a sense of being off to new horizons. By bringing together emerging talents who honestly confront us with the ambiguities of personal expectations and within society , the show delivers a hopeful picture of individual self-determination.

Alice Morey - Multimedia born in London, Alice is based between Berlin and the UK. Combining different mediums she creates a multilayered dialogue, a constant flux and flow of processes that balance out in her intuitive and sometimes systematic response to life and death, placing them in a ritual of craft and environment of sensitive material play.

Iseult Enright - Virtual Reality Is a French-Argentine digital artist based in London, creating experimental videos and digital images, including 3D scanning and virtual reality. Through her practice, she intertwines ideas such as identity, the aesthetic of the self and the female figure; using them in timeless mythological or fictional scenarios projected through the prism of new technologies.

Rayvenn D’Clark - Sculpture born in London, Rayvenn recently graduated from Chelsea College of Arts. Her sculptures expose the black body laid bare – in traction, unencumbered, motivated by issues surrounding the black body fuelling a discussion of the irregular position of the black-artist who remains abstracted and marginalised in "a male, pale, and stale, whitewashed art-world."

Yuli Serfaty - Video Installation is a Tel Aviv born, cross disciplinary artist currently undertaking an MA at the Slade School of Art. As a female artist living in a patriarchal, materialistic, digital world her aim is to see technology not as a barrier, but use it as a tool to empower and create positive change in our image of nature and our bodies.

Paola Estrella - Multimedia born in Mexico City, Paola is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Her multidisciplinary practice explores subjects such as intimacy, memories and social conventions by emphasising on ideas related to gender, feminism and acknowledgement of self through processes that depict principles of freedom and evolution of thought.

Mew Jirasirikul - Painting born in Bangkok, Mew is currently completing a Masters degree in Painting at the Slade School of Fine Art. Her work explores the romance, playfulness, and sheer absurdity of daily life reflecting in the colourful materiality of her paintings.

Monica Perez Vega - Sculpture, Painting born in California, Monica is currently completing an MA at the Slade School of Art. Working within a process reflective of life experiences, she embraces accidental and incidental moments; allowing herself to be guided by material. While decisions may feel intuitive to her, there are institutional constructs that have been learned both subconsciously and academically which she is aiming to confront.

Madelynn Mae Green - Painting Born in the US Madelynn is currently completing her MA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins. Her practice combines abstract and figurative painting styles, pulling deeply personal images out of obscurity and reinterpreting African-American history through the material language of painting. Exploring themes of memory, family and domesticity, altering colour, scale and composition Green aims to create new versions of reality.

Niloofar Taatizadeh - Sculpture is a multidisciplinary artist from Iran, recently graduated from the MA Contemporary Photography at Central Saint Martins. Niloofar’s practices examines the procedure of breaking strangeness open, exploring where change can emerge, and how the limitless processes of making and creating anew can reflect the multiple ‘becomings’ beneath the surface of a single, concrete reality.
